If you’re looking for heat that actually gets the job done fast, these white halogen lamps are your best bet. They don’t just warm up the surface of whatever you’re working on; they push shortwave radiation deep into the material. We build these with a tungsten filament tucked inside a high-purity quartz tube. Then, we fill it with a halogen gas mix. Why? Because it stops the filament from evaporating, which keeps the lamp running longer. Getting the power right Here’s the thing: it all comes down to the wattage-to-length ratio. If you cram a lot of wattage into a short tube, you get a massive hit of heat density. It’s great if you need a fast ramp-up. But be careful. Running high-voltage tubes can be risky if your power supply isn’t steady. If your controllers can’t handle the voltage drop, the lamps will burn out way sooner than they should. The nitty-gritty on design We use R7s or Sk15 connectors, so you can just pop these into most industrial ovens without a headache. When we call them “white,” we’re talking about the quartz clarity and the spectral output. This is what lets the heat soak into polymers and metals almost instantly. One big warning:Don’t touch the quartz with your bare hands. I know it sounds picky, but the oils from your skin create little hotspots. When the lamp heats up, those spots cause the glass to crack. Just give them a quick wipe with some alcohol before you install them, and you’re good to go. Putting them to work You’ll see these all over the place in PET blowing and plastic shrink wrapping. They get the preform hot enough to hit that “glass transition” point right before the blow air hits. But since these things put out so much energy, you can’t ignore your cooling system. If the air around the housing gets too hot, your connectors might actually melt. It’s a simple fix, but it’s one that saves you a lot of downtime.
